JaackMaate says he will switch on lights across Norwich on 19 November, ending at The Murderers. The comedy club lists a Happy Hour show that night as sold out.

JaackMaate and his Happy Hour podcast co-hosts say they will spend 19 November switching on Christmas lights around Norwich. That is the day of the official switch-on, from which Norwich City Council dropped him on 30 October.

The YouTuber and podcaster, Jack Dean, set out the plan in a video on his verified Instagram account. He said the day would finish at The Murderers pub on Timber Hill, where the group would “turn their lights on and have a massive party” with fans. He said listeners had booked trains and hotels they could not get refunded, and asked them to come anyway.

The charity show

He also promised “a one-off live show” at The Lanes Comedy Club. He said it would raise money for Mind the Gap, which he called the Lord Mayor’s civic charity, with “details to follow”.

The club’s listings show “Happy Hour: Xmas Party!” on Thursday 19 November at 6.30pm, marked sold out. The club is at 7 Dereham Road. The listing does not mention a charity, so we cannot yet say whether this is the show he described.

Which venues are taking part

So far the video names only The Murderers and The Lanes Comedy Club. It gives no route or start time. Jack Dean asked local independent businesses, community projects and charities to get in touch if they would like their lights switched on.

The Murderers’ own website did not mention the event when we checked today.

The official event has not changed

The council’s Festive Lights Switch-on is still listed for Thursday 19 November, free, from 5.30pm on the City Hall steps. The lights go on at 7pm.

The council said on 30 October that JaackMaate “will no longer be appearing at the event”. Its statement said: “In reviewing our arrangements, we failed to identify issues from previous published content before announcing him. We apologise for this and will be changing our procedures.”

It promised a further announcement “shortly”. We could find none today, and its switch-on site still says the full line-up is “coming soon”.
