Long Stratton High School has 60 boxes of tissues for pupils and wants shops and residents to give more or host a collection point by World Kindness Day.
Long Stratton High School is asking local shops, businesses and residents for boxes of tissues. Its Box of Kindness appeal has collected 60 boxes from families and staff so far, and the school now wants the wider community to add to the pile, or to host a collection point, before World Kindness Day on Friday 13 November.
The tissues go to pupils, so that they “feel comfortable, cared for and supported throughout the school day”, the school says.
Why tissues
The appeal is run by the school’s pastoral and safeguarding team. Sarah McGregor, head of Year 7, told us kindness is one of the school’s core values, and that the idea is to show pupils what it means in practice:
“We want our students to understand that it is about far more than simply being nice. It is about noticing others, recognising when someone might need support, and understanding that even the smallest gesture can make a real difference to someone’s day.”
The 60 boxes so far came, she said, “thanks to the generosity of our school community”. The next step is to take it outside the school:
“The initiative is about much more than tissues. We want our young people to see that kindness extends beyond the school gates and that they are part of a community where people care about one another. By bringing local people together for a shared purpose, we hope to show our students what kindness looks like in action and encourage them to carry that message into their own lives.”
What the school is asking for
- Boxes of tissues, from local businesses, shops and residents.
- Collection points: businesses and community venues willing to put out a box so that customers and visitors can drop tissues in.
“It would be wonderful to turn this into something truly special for our students and to celebrate the kindness that exists within our local community,” Ms McGregor said.
What it means for you
If you run a shop, café, surgery, church hall or any other venue in or around Long Stratton and can host a collection point, or you simply have a box of tissues to give, contact the school office on 01508 530418. The school is on Manor Road, Long Stratton, NR15 2XR, and its website is lshs.org.uk.
World Kindness Day falls on Friday 13 November, so the school is looking for help over the next four weeks.
